The first NPC Final was in 1992 with the great Dave Bishops to referee it. He did so twice and then was followed by his schoolmate Colin Hawke who was followed by Paddy O'Brien, making the Final almost a South Island preserve for referees.

The first NPC Final was in 1992 with the great Dave Bishops to referee it. He did so twice and then was followed by his schoolmate Colin Hawke who was followed by Paddy O'Brien, making the Final almost a South Island preserve for referees.

This year Chris Pollock will be refereeing the Final, his second. The 40-year-old from Taranaki is a North Islander.

O'Brien refereed four finals, the most by any referee. Bishop, Hawke, Paul Honiss andBryce Lawrence have each refereed two Finals and on Saturday Pollock will join them.
