Cheika: Wallabies always 'Half a yard' behind
The Wallabies were their own worst enemies in a ragged first half, gifting the Scots two tries to trail at half-time with two signature tries by fullback Israel Folau keeping the hosts in the contest up to half-time.
"I thought we were half-a-yard away from the game all the match," Wallabies coach Michael Cheika said.
After the loss the mentor foreshadowed change for next weekend’s Italy clash in Brisbane but dismissed the idea that changing up the team midway through what he sees as a five-game block that includes the first two Bledisloe fixtures, would set them back.
"I’d say there'll be a few," he said.
"It's really about that one point [I made] at the start about being more urgent to the game, willing the game more – you've got to make it happen.
"It's not just going to happen for you. You've got to have guys with that attitude I suppose,"
Skipper Michael Hooper added: "They're a scruffy team to play. They get their feet into the rucks, get their hands into the rucks and we couldn't find our shape well tonight.
"I'm disappointed we couldn't get over the line… You look at Izzy's [Folau's second] try, there's potential across the whole park for us. It just didn't click,"
