The 29-year-old, who weighs in at an imposing 105kg and stands at 1.95m, moves to France from English side Wasps where he has spent the last two years.

Sevens specialist Halai, a Tongan native, made just one appearance for the All Blacks against Japan in 2013.

At Pau, he will join fellow New Zealanders, flyhalf Colin Slade, centres Conrad Smith and Tom Taylor, as well as manager Simon Mannix and forwards coach Carl Hayman.
