"I know I will not play for the Springboks again," Steyn told Midi Olympique

"These trips, these absences, has become too difficult for me. Also, Handre Pollard is coming back from injury. He and Pat Lambie have the talent and it is time to give them room."

Steyn has represented his country 66 times and made his debut on the international stage against the British and Irish Lions in 2009.

He also represented the Bulls and won three Super Rugby titles with the Pretoria outfit before moving to France in 2013.
