Prediction: The Brumbies have won each of their last four games against the Reds, the last time they won more was a 12-game streak from 2000 to 2010. Only one of the last five Australian derbies in Super Rugby has seen the same team lead at both half-time and full-time. The Reds have lost their last 11 games away from home; the last time they won on the road was in Round 16, 2015 against the Force. The Brumbies are the most efficient tacklers of any team in the competition, boasting a tackle success rate of 88 percent for the campaign thus far. Samu Kerevi has beaten 28 defenders, including four last round, which is the most of any player this season. The Reds will give the Brumbies a run for their money, but in the end, the class of the home team will win through and they will triumph by eight points.
  • -10
Players to watch: For the Brumbies: Henry Speight have been in fine form and will look to continue to get his side over the advantage line and on the scoreboard For the Reds: Samu Kerevi have been huge for the reds by drawing in numbers and creating space for his outside backs. He have also dotted down a few tries and will look to continue doing so.
  • -15
The Reds had some close games they could have won. Their best performance arguably was against the Crusaders where they were in a position to win the match and lost it to a last min penalty. They will want to rectify those soft moments to close out games.
  • -20
The Brumbies will look to take advantage of the home ground advantage to gain more log points. They are currently fourth on the log due to the conference system and if it worked on points they would be 10th, so log points will strengthen their playoff hopes.
  • -25
Australian teams in general have been very poor in 2017. This match is vital in the Australian conference as the result won’t impact the overall log that much. The Brumbies are on 11 log points and the Reds on eight, a full house points from the Reds could see them be tied with the Brumbies on 11 points and make the Australian conference a bit interesting

Brumbies blow Reds away

Sat, 08 Apr 2017 09:33

SUPER RUGBY REPORT: The Brumbies extended their lead at the top of the Australian Conference with a 43-10 bonus-point win over the Reds in Canberra on Saturday.

The Brumbies notched up 33 unanswered points in the second half after being held 10-10 by the Reds at half-time.

Stephen Larkham's team scored six tries to one with flyhalf Wharenui Hawera chipping in with 13 points from five conversions and a penalty.

It was the Brumbies' 10th consecutive Australian derby win, while the dismal Reds slumped to their sixth straight defeat this season.

The Brumbies broke away shortly after the resumption with a try to hooker Robbie Abel off the back of a rolling maul quickly followed up by a runaway try from fullback Aidan Toua.

It got worse for the struggling Reds with No.8 Jarrad Butler scoring off another rolling maul, and replacement James Dargaville and flank Chris Alcock adding further tries in the final minutes.

The Brumbies have opened up an eight-point lead over the Waratahs in the Australian conference with the Reds a further two points away.

"I am very happy with the second half, it is probably one of the best halves of rugby I've been involved with at this team," Brumbies skipper Scott Fardy said.

It was an abject showing from the Reds which skipper Stephen Moore described as "embarrassing".

"Ten-all at half-time, I don't know what to say, it was embarrassing," Moore said.

"I thought we did some good stuff in the first half, but we restarted poorly conceding two quick tries in the second half, that got us on the back foot and we probably didn't show enough fight."

The Brumbies have now won their last five games against the Reds, who have lost their last 12 games away from home.

The home side's victory came at a price, with centre Kyle Godwin (broken hand) and loose forward Jordan Smiler (hamstring) not finishing the game.

The Brumbies face the Rebels in Melbourne next week in another Australian derby, while the Reds host South Africa's Southern Kings in Brisbane.

Man of the match: Brumbies scrumhalf Joe Powell produced some great play on attack and gets the award. Special mention must also be given to Rory Arnold, Scott Fardy and Chris Alcock
