Player Ratings: Wooden spoon

Numerous handling errors, poor decision making and a fired up Los Pumas side saw the South Americans claim their first victory over the Springboks in front of the 1965 team that toured South Africa.

There are some serious questions about the form of certain players and the changes made before the game but the Springboks just did not look up for the match from kick-off.

We rate the South African players!

15 Willie le Roux

Had a shocking first half before grabbing a second half try but the fullback was far from his best for the remainder of the match.

4/10

14 Jesse Kriel

Looked lost on the wing but got involved with some plays to help in setting up a try.

5/10

13 Jean de Villiers

Not a bad outing for the returning captain but he still looked far off the pace.

4/10

12 Damian de Allende

Attempted to straighten the attacking line and made some crucial tackles but was nowhere near his recent form. Also found himself at flank for the final 15 minutes.

6/10

11 Bryan Habana

Grabbed a late try and despite looking for work, he saw very little of the ball.

5/10

10 Handre Pollard

Showed glimpses of his attacking threat but it was his poor kicking and decision making that cost his team possession and momentum.

3/10

9 Ruan Pienaar

Offered very little in terms of attacking and was very lateral for the majority of the time he was on the field.

4/10

8 Schalk Burger

Put his body on the line throughout the encounter and stood out as one of the better players on the day.

7/10

7 Marcell Coetzee

Seemed out of sorts despite effecting a couple of turnovers before leaving the field with an injury.

5/10

6 Heinrich Brüssow

Was his usual busy self and did his best to turnover possession but a far cry from the form that saw him return to the Springbok fold.

6/10

5 Lodewyk de Jager

Showed he is the form line-out jumper and was not afraid to get stuck in on defence. Great effort to grab a try.

6/10

4 Eben Etzebeth

Stole a line-out but other than that, was not really in the game.

4/10

3 Vincent Koch

Received a scrumming lesson by the more experienced Marcos Ayerza before being taken off at half-time.

2/10

2 Bismarck du Plessis

Tried to impose himself physically but found himself under all sorts of pressure in all areas of the game.

4/10

1 Tendai Mtawarira

Struggled to establish himself in the scrums and got out-muscled throughout the game.

3/10

Replacements:

16 Adriaan Strauss (on for du Plessis, 56 mins)

Offered a lot more with ball-in-hand and helped to stabilise the scrums.

5/10

17 Trevor Nyakane (on for Mtawarira, 61 mins)

Showed his worth at scrum time and put his hand up for a starting role.

5/10

18 Marcel van der Merwe (on for Koch, 40 mins)

Assisted in getting the scrum more stable but offered very little elsewhere.

4/10

19 Pieter-Steph du Toit (on for Etzebeth, 61 mins)

A fair performance in coming off the bench after a lengthy injury in a losing cause.

5/10

20 Siya Kolisi (on for Brussow, 62 mins)

Brought some intensity in the closing stages of the match.

5/10

21 Cobus Reinach (on for Pienaar, 59 mins)

Sparked some life in attack and must feel hard done by to be denied a try.

6/10

22 Pat Lambie (on for Pollard, 65 mins)

Should have been given more time as he got the backline firing when he got onto the field and is definitely the form flyhalf at the moment.

6/10

23 Lwazi Mvovo (on for Coetzee, 65 mins)

Looked threatening when he got the ball but saw very little of it in his brief time on the field.

5/10
