OPINION: France's lack of creativity and inability to convert pressure into tries contributed to their 12-35 defeat against the Springboks at Ellis Park - their first-ever defeat at the venue.

The French side had a few early opportunities but could not score any tries. Even though Les Blues is known for their flair and creativity, that failed to show in this Test series and it cost them dearly.

Jeremy Papier rates the French players!

15 Brice Dulin
Much better performance than the first test. Perhaps the best player for the French on the day.

14 Nans Ducuing
Did not see the ball as much. Had a few touches and never really got involved.

13 Damien Penaud
Backed his debut up with another good game.

12 Gael Fickou
Very quiet performance by Fickou perhaps dominated by his opposite number.

11 Virimi Vakatawa
His space was shut down very quickly by the South African therefore, he could not unleash his massive frame.

10 Jules Plisson
Showed much more control in the game while he also had a good night with the boot.

9 Baptiste Serin
France's biggest future prospect did no damage to his reputation.

8 Louis Picamoles
Started to gain some ground in the second half with strong carries, although he played within himself.

7 Kevin Gourdon
Another busy performance.

6 Yacouba Camara
Strong carries in the first half but found himself sidelined early in the second.

5 Romain Taofifenua
Carried strongly but failed to stay in the game.

4 Yoann Maestri
Worked hard on defence but never had enough opportunities to carry.

3 Rabah Slimani
Struggled at scrum time, although made some good metres when he carried.

2 Guilhem Guirado
The captain got a little bit more involved in the game.

1 Jefferson Poirot
Made sure his opposition felt his presence while he showed that he can carry strongly as well.

16 Clement Maynadier (on for Picamoles, 70th min)
Not enough time to be rated.

17 Xavier Chiocci (on for Poirot, 68th min)
Not enough time to be rated.

18 Uini Atonio (On for Slimani, 58th min)
Spent less than 10 minutes on the field before being substituted again. Not enough time to be rated.

19 Paul Jedrasiak (On for Taofifenua, 64th min)
The only duty he performed was to give Taofifenua an early rest.

20 Loann Goujon (On for Camara, 41st min)
Showed that he is a strong ball carrier by making quite a few metres, although, he needs to tighten up defensively.

21 Maxime Machenaud (On for Serin, 71st min)
Not enough time to be rated.

22 Francois Trinh-Duc (On for Penaud, 64th min)
One or two decent runs but that was about it.

23 Vincent Rattez (On for Vakatawa, 77th min)
Not enough time to be rated.
