NEWS: Having spent time as the backline and attack coach of the Boland Cavaliers under Brent Janse van Rensburg during the 2016 Currie Cup competition, Randall Modiba has been handed the head coach role.

Modiba's two-year appointment will come into effect as of January 1, following Janse van Rensburg's resignation in October 2016.

Modiba has been involved in the union's coaching structures for the past 15 years and has achieved success with various teams. Besides having been part of the Cavaliers coaching staff for the past two seasons, Modiba was also the head coach of several successful junior Boland teams.

Modiba coached Boland's Under-19 teams in 2009 and 2014, with these teams being crowned Currie Cup U-19 champions on both occasions.

Modiba will be assisted by former Boland Cavaliers captain Henley du Plessis (forwards coach), Jacques du Toit (Biokineticist/Strength and Conditioning coach) and Dunia Mouneimne (Physiotherapist) during the 2017 rugby season.

"We are proud to announce the appointment of Randall Modiba as head coach of the Boland Cavaliers, as this is a coach who has come through all of Boland's structures. Modiba is a man who knows the union very well.

"Combine with his technical abilities, he is more than capable to succeed in this role," BRU president Ivan Pekeur said.

Modiba he feels humbled and thankful for being given the opportunity to coach the senior side.

"My primary purpose will be to help take Boland to greater heights. This means that my work won't end with the Cavaliers, but to ensure we work and develop all the talented players within Boland's club structures," Modiba said of his appointment.
