The Rugby Paper's transfer column, On the Blindside, claims Bristol have "sounded out" the interest of the 26-year-old, Mostert.

However, he is still contracted to the Lions and his Japanese club Black Rams until the end of 2018.

The 1.98 metre (six feet, six inches), 112 kilograms (17 stone, nine pounds) lock made his Test debut in a 32-26 victory over Ireland in Johannesburg last June.

Since then he has established himself as one of the leading forwards in South Africa, playing in 15 Tests.

He came off the bench in the 24-25 loss to New Zealand in Cape Town last Saturday.

The Rugby Paper is reporting that as well as Bristol, a host of Premiership clubs are interested in signing him – Leicester Tigers, Bath, Gloucester, Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors also making enquiries.

Bristol is looking to win promotion back into the Premiership next season.

They are currently top of the Championship table and unbeaten this season.
