TRANSFER NEWS: South African Omar Mouneimne has signed a new two-year deal as Defence & Kicking Strategy coach at Worcester Warriors.

The South African, who took on his role at Sixways in April 2017, has played a crucial role in Warriors’ improved defensive performances this season.

Since Mouneimne arrived at Sixways, the average number of tries and points Warriors have conceded per match has significantly reduced compared to the same number of matches immediately before his arrival.

Mouneimne has amassed a wealth of experience in Southern Hemisphere, Northern Hemisphere and international rugby since starting his coaching career with South Africa’s Sevens team in 2006.

He moved to Super Rugby side the Stormers in 2008 and played a key role as they reached the 2010 Super 14 final.

He was also part of the Western Province coaching set-up when they reached the semi-finals of the Currie Cup in 2009 and the final in 2010.

Later that year, Mouneimne returned to international rugby as Defence Coach of Italy and helped the Azzurri beat defending champions France in 2011 for the first time ever in the Six Nations.

A spell at Southern Kings followed before Mouneimne moved to Edinburgh Rugby, where he was instrumental as they reached the European Challenge Cup final in 2015.

Mouneimne has also worked as a coach at Pumas and Sharks in South Africa, and at Top 14 sides Lyon and Stade Francais.

During his time at Sharks, they boasted the fewest points conceded and the second-fewest tries conceded out of all 18 teams in the Super Rugby competition, despite being drawn in what was considered as the toughest Conference as it included five teams from New Zealand.

Mouneimne said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this talented group of players at Warriors and I am delighted to be able to commit my future to the Club.

"The Premiership is a hugely competitive league and I am immensely excited to have the opportunity to help the team continue to improve on the pitch and move up the table in the coming years,"

Warriors Director of Rugby Alan Solomons said: "Omar is a world-class defence coach, who has done a fantastic job for the Club, and I am delighted he has extended his stay at Sixways to be part of this Club’s future,"
