Evans commits future to Scarlets

The 22-year-old Evans will make his 50th appearance for the region if he features against reigning European champions Saracens at the Parc on Sunday.

Evans made an impact in his first season with the Scarlets, 2014-15, making nine starts in nine games, scoring two tries. 25 appearances and five tries followed last season including European Rugby Champions Cup starts.

Enjoying something a purple patch, having already played 19 games this season starting all but one of the region's games in the Pro12 and European Rugby Champions Cup, Evans is consistently named in the Pro12's stats for defenders beaten, tries scored, metres gained and clean breaks made.

Capable of playing on either wing or at fullback Evans has gained a reputation as an electric outside back and was on stand-by for Wales' June Tour 2016 to New Zealand.

Commenting on the news Evans said: "I'm really pleased to have signed a new contract to stay at the Scarlets. I've grown up supporting the region and feel it's a real honour to be able to wear the famous jersey and to represent the club.

"I'm looking forward to continuing my development within the region over the next few years and hopefully one day push for international honours but my focus at the moment is the Scarlets and hopefully making the top four in the Pro12."

Head coach Wayne Pivac added: "Steff has had a great start to the season and has played a lot of rugby for us. He's an exciting attacking player but has also put the time in on the training field on areas of the game that he needed to work on.

"It's pleasing to see young local guys like Steff wanting to commit their future to the region and we look forward to see him continue to grow as a player."

Jon Daniels, Scarlets General Manager of Rugby, added; "We are delighted to see a homegrown talent like Steff committing his immediate future to the region. It's pleasing to see the region's development pathway continuing to produce exciting young players.

"We have been working diligently behind the scenes on recruitment and retention of a number of players with the emphasis on ensuring that we're building an exciting and talented squad for the future and long-term development of the region."
