Blommetjies, who was also wanted by Premiership sides Wasps and Newcastle, has been in fine form for the Cheetahs this season, putting in a man-of-the-match performance in his team’s  PRO14 victory over the Dragons last weekend.

Blommetjies can also play wing and started his career with the Blue Bulls in 2009 before heading to the Free State Cheetahs in 2014.

Blommetjies will become the fourth non-Welsh qualified player to join the West Wales region ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Cheetahs No.8 Uzair Cassiem, Hurricanes forward Blade Thomson and  Samoan centre Kieron Fonotia have already been confirmed as new signings.
