Leyds itching for more in green and gold

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Springbok wing Dillyn Leyds hopes he will get more opportunities in the green and gold after he made his run-on debut in the Boks' 27-all draw with the Wallabies in Bloemfontein.

Leyds put in a solid enough performance to suggest that he should be given more opportunities to build on his performance and showcase his array of skills on the international stage.

However, the 25-year-old would have liked to mark the special occasion with a win and not a draw.

"It is a dream come true - to be a part of this team is amazing," Leyds told reporters after the game.

"After the hard work we put in behind the scenes, I think everyone in that changing room is bitterly disappointed that we didn't get the result [win], but personally, like I said, it is a dream come true.

"It is great to wear the green and gold and hopefully going forward there will be a couple more."

Springbok head coach Allister Coetzee believes Leyds was part of an improved backline display against the Wallabies in Bloemfontein.

"We all know Dillyn is a quality player," said Coetzee. "He is a guy who has played as a fullback before and his awareness of space and keeping the ball alive tonight [Saturday] was excellent.

"I am really pleased with the physicality of our backs. When we had to go directly through them [Wallabies] we went through and when we had to go around them we found some space, so I am really pleased because the backline is actually the Wallabies' strength and they are a good outfit.

"Players who have been around a long time - if you look at [Will] Genia, [Bernard] Foley, [Tevita] Kuridrani and [Israel] Folau] those are quality players, they are world-class players, so I am proud with the way our backs went tonight."
