The timeframe for his return has not been confirmed, but he is expected to miss at least the opening month of the competition.

They also rested a number of senior players – Juan Martín Hernández, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Tomás Lavanini, Marcos Kremer, Emiliano Boffelli, Ramiro Herrera and Facundo Isa.

The Jaguares – playing two separate teams in two 30-minute halves – outscored Uruguay by nine tries to one.Landajo blow for Jaguares

The Argentinean franchise dominated territory and possession throughout – playing an attractive, high-paced game.

In the first half the Jaguares outscored their South American rivals by five tries to nil – through Julian Montoya (two), Matias Moroni (two) and Juan Manuel Leguizamón – to lead 35-0 at the break.

After the break, Benjamin Macome, Bautista Ezcurra and Gonzalez Iglesias scored tries, while the Jaguares were also awarded a penalty try.

The Jaguares dominated all aspects of the game, but it was their dominance in the scrums that really set them apart.

It was a good first-up performance by the Jaguares.

Los Jaguares will play and Argentina XV in Buenos Aires on Friday, January 27.

They will open their second Super Rugby season on February 25.

As in 2016, they will play against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth. Seven days later they will play against the Stormers in Cape Town.

"It was very important to get some game time," Jaguares wing Matías Orlando said.

"We have been training hard, but the pace of training compared to that of a match is very different and it was what we needed, to know where we are standing and what to focus on going forward.

"The good thing is that we have several more friendlies.

No.8 Leonardo Senatore described it as a "typical first pre-season game".

"There are many aspects we need to work on. We tried to execute what we've been doing in training – with some new things on defence and on attack.

"We made some mistakes, like losing balls in contact or some unforced errors.

"That will improve with hard work. It is a matter of repetition – to execute our new defensive system. We need to be vetter than last year in the physical aspects of our game"
