CUT, Fort Hare docked points

The decision to sanction the Universities was taken by the Varsity Cup board. It was also decided that their respective opponents would be handed full points for those matches.

CUT fielded the ineligible player in their Round One 0-40 thrashing at the hands of current log leaders Maties. The Stellenbosch students claimed maximum points in that match, meaning no further points were awarded to them.

However, CUT has now had two points deducted – moving them to the foot of the table, tied on points with UCT-Ikeys.

In their opening fixture against UWC in Alice, Fort Hare lost 8-15. The ruling made by the board was to deduct two points from Fort Hare while awarding UWC an extra point.

The point comes in handy for the Cape students as it keeps them firmly in touch in reaching the Shield final, while the deduction sees the Eastern Cape students move to the bottom of the table.
