England has played in all seven World Cups.

They hosted and won the World Cup once.

Out of the four games they played South Africa at World Cups, they only beat the Springboks once, which was in the 1991 World Cup quarterfinals.

England had five different captains and six different coaches at World Cups- with Will Carling and Martin Johnson captaining the side on two consecutive occasions.

Martin Johnson,Daniel Dubroca and Diego Ormaechea are the only three players to captain and coach a country at a World Cup.

England and New Zealand are the only two countries to have the same coach and captain at two consecutive World Cups.

They have reached the final on three times and only won it once.

1987

It was England first participation at the World Cup.

There was no qualification process due to England being an International Rugby Football Board member.

England was knocked-out in the quarterfinals, after their 16-3 loss to Wales in Brisbane.

Martin Grenn coached the side-with Mike Harrison being captain.

Australia collected 103 points- with only 48 conceded in the competition.

Their biggest winning margin was again 53 points, when they crushed Japan 60-7 in a pool game.

Jonathan Webb 43points was the highest for England in the tournament.

Mike Harrisen five tries was the most by England player in the tournament.

1991

The second edition of the World Cup was jointly hosted by England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and France.

England came second, after they loss 12-6 to New Zealand in the final.

Geoff Cooke coached the side-with Will Carling being captain.

They received automatic qualification, due to them being in the quarterfinals of the previous World Cup.

Out of England 191 points in the tournament, Johnathan Wood contributed 57 of it.

Their biggest winning margin was again 30 points when they toppled Italy 36-6 in a pool game.

Rorry Underwood four tries was the most by a England player in the tournament.

1995

It was England third participation at the World Cup.

They received automatic qualification, due to them ending second in the previous World Cup.

England was knocked-out in the semifinals by New Zealand- with a 45-29 loss.

They ended fourth after their 19-9 loss to France in the third-place play-off.

England collected 158 points- with only 146 conceded in the competition.

Jack Rowell coached the side-with Will Carling being captain.

Their biggest winning margin was again 28 points when they toppled Samoa 42-14 in the quarterfinals.

Rob Andrew contributed 79 out of there 158 points in the tournament.

1999

England appeared in their fourth World Cup.

They received automatic qualification because they ended fourth in the previous World Cup.

England was knocked-out in the quarterfinals by South Africa- with a 44-21 loss.

Clive Woodward coached the side-with Martin Johnson being captain.

England collected 250 points- with only 115 conceded in the competition.

In England's, 101-10 win over Tonga, eight players scored tries-with five of them scoring two.This was England’s highest victory.

2003

England appeared in their fifth World Cup.

They received automatic qualification, due to them being in the quarterfinals of the previous World Cup.

England won their first World Cup, when they won 20-17 against Australia in the final.

Clive Woodward coached the side-with Martin Johnson being captain. Both of them are appearing in their second World Cup as coach and captain.

Jonny Wilkinson 113 points were the most by an England player in the tournament.

Josh Lewsey five tries was the most in one match, for Australia.

Their biggest winning margin was 98 points when they crushed Uruguay 111-13 in a pool match.

England collected 327 points- with only 88 conceded in the competition.

Wilkinson eight drop-goals were the most in one tournament.

2007

England appeared in their sixth World Cup.

They received automatic qualification because they won the previous World Cup.

England came second, after they lost 15-6 to South Africa in the final.

Brian Ashton coached the side-with Phil Vickey being captain.

Phil Vickey was cited for two weeks, for tripping a United States player.

The Springboks had demolished England 36-0 in the opening pool game.

England collected 140 points- with only 122 conceded in the competition.

Their biggest winning margin was 22 points, when they toppled Samoa 44-22 in a pool match. 

2011

England appeared in their sixth World Cup.

They received automatic qualification after they came second in the previous World Cup.

Martin Johnson coached the side-with Lewis Moody being captain.

England was knocked-out in the quarterfinals after a 19-12 loss to France.

England’s, Chris Ashton and France Vincent Clerc both had six tries which was the most in the tournament.

England collected 149 points- with only 53 conceded in the competition.

Their biggest winning margin was 64 points when they deafeated Romania 67-3 in a pool match.
