Ox ready to 'impose' his presence

SPOTLIGHT: Wales are in for one tough battle in the set-pieces when they face the Springboks in Pretoria on Saturday.

Saturday’s match is one of three the two teams will be involved in July.

The scrums were one of the main talking points at this week’s first briefing following Wales coach Wayne Pivac’s comments that the Springboks were one of the best scrummaging teams in the world.

Like in any other Test match, the set-pieces will once again be an area where both teams will look to lay a foundation for victory.

And Springbok prop Retshegofaditswe ‘Ox’ Nché knows how important that will be on Saturday.

“Obviously, we would like to impose our presence in the scrums and deliver a good performance against them,” Nché said

“It doesn’t mean that if we were dominant in the scrums in the last game that it will be the same this time.

“The team that performs the best in that area on the day will come out on top.”

Meanwhile, Springbok assistant coach Deon Davids believes the line-outs – and especially the mauls that stem from it – will also be a big focus area.

“Our set-pieces are always very important,” Davids said.

“You want top-quality delivery to get your attack going or to stop the opposition’s momentum.

“I think the line-out mauls are also going to be important to ensure our delivery.

“If you look back at our last meeting, they stayed in the fight right up to the last minute.

“We scored that maul try towards the end, which put us ahead to win that game, so it’s going to be very competitive.”
