Stormers retain some real blitz

NEWS: The Stormers, renowned for their attacking prowess, retained one of their most clinical finishers.

Wing Leolin Zas has signed a three-year contract extension with the Stormers which runs until 2026.

The prolific finisher, who made his Stormers debut in 2016, was the top try scorer in the United Rugby Championship last season, dotting down 11 times as the Stormers claimed the inaugural title.

The 27-year-old showed more of that impressive form this season and was rewarded with a call-up to the South Africa ‘A’ squad.

Stormers coach John Dobson said that having a player with Zas’ ruthless finishing abilities and considerable mental strength sign on for another three years is a major boost for the entire squad.

“Leolin is a deadly finisher, that much is obvious to anyone who has watched us play over the last year.

“What is perhaps even more impressive is the way he has come back from injury time and again and grown his game over the years to become the player he is.

“He is exactly the kind of player you want to have on your side, so to know he is here for another three years lifts the whole squad,” he said.

Zas said that he could not be happier to keep playing for the team he loves.

“I already have so many fond memories in a Stormers jersey,” the wing said.

“I first played for this team when I was 19 and each time feels just as special as it did then.

“I am excited to see what we can still achieve together here and very happy to be part of that journey for the next three years,” he added.
