'Hell-bent' on saving SANZAAR's comps
SPOTLIGHT: SANZAAR has relentlessly been working to ensure both this year’s Super Rugby and the Rugby Championship will go ahead.
According to Newshub SANZAAR chief executive, Andy Marinos has floored the scenario of having the two competitions run parallel with each other, similar to the National Rugby Leagues’ solution.
The desperate act, if successful, will mean that Super Rugby sides will be playing without their international players during the Rugby Championship Test window.
This situation given the lack of games will certainly hand new selection conundrums for the SANZAAR coaches – especially new mentors Jacques Nienaber (South Africa), Dave Rennie (Australia) and Ian Foster (New Zealand).

“We could be playing the Rugby Championship at the same time as a domestic competition,” Marinos told Newshub.
“It’s not trying to rubbish one for the other, it’s how do we get a sensible solution in what may be a restricted time frame”
He added “Logic would suggest if there is an ability to create like what we’ve seen with the NRL around a bubble if it’s all in one location it seems a bit easier.
“At this point in time, we’d be silly to rule out anything.”
In terms of the Super Rugby plan, SANZAAR is desperately trying to get a domestic tournament underway that would see each team stay in their home country, with the Sunwolves to be based in Australia and the Jaguares in South Africa.
“We are hell-bent and have every intention of delivering the complete package,” Marinos added.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Australia is the strongest candidate to host the tournament due to the stringency of COVID-19 pandemic measures in the other countries.
According to the Age, it is believed Australia is geographically best suited to host the tournament with Perth being and ideal location with its low rate of coronavirus cases compared to other cities in the country.
Perth’s time zone will also suit South Africa better than Australia’s eastern seaboard.
