McKenzie left Argentina for New Zealand after hearing the news, the team’s official Twitter account said without specifying the nature of the loss.

“Damian McKenzie has returned home to New Zealand after a family bereavement. He will rejoin the All Blacks squad in South Africa,” it said.

“The thoughts of everyone in the All Blacks are with Damian and his family at this sad time.”

The All Blacks take on Argentina on Saturday looking to bounce back from a shock 34-26 loss to South Africa in Wellington on September 15.
