According to French media reports, 27-year-old Luke Jones has secured a release from his contract with French club Bordeaux. He will then return to Australia and link up with the Melbourne Rebels ahead of next year’s Super Rugby tournament.

Jones has been playing for Bordeaux since 2016. He was previously with the Rebels for six seasons and one season for the Western Force. He picked up three Wallaby Test caps.

The Lock had a contract with Bordeaux through to the end of 2020, but his desire to play in the World Cup in Japan has brought about a change of heart.

Jones becomes immediately eligible for the Wallabies when he signs his new contract and he could feature on the end-of-year tour for the Wallabies.
