According to various media reports, Gregor Townsend is set to name the 22-year-old in his November Test training squad on Thursday.

Independent Online reported that Richardson’s Scottish ancestry makes him eligible for selection for the national team, even though he has spent the entirety of his professional career at the Sharks.

Describes as a rising star, Rihcarson’s inclusion in the Scotland squad is a loss to the Springboks.

However, the utility forward, who can play hooker as well,  will remain at the Sharks thanks to the ongoing relationship between Sharks CEO Eduard Coetzee and Scotland coach Townsend.

Townsend, who played for the Durban franhise in 2004, has discussed Richardson’s Scotland future with Coetzee.

It has also been reported that Richardson has reacted positively to Scotland’s interest in him.

Thus far the Springboks have shown no interest in the rising star.

Richardson was a member of the SA Under-20 team that won bronze at the World Championship in Argentina in 2019.

The 22-year-old will be joining a growing list of South Africans  – WP Nel, Oli Kebble, Duhan van der Merwe and Jaco van der Walt –   in the Scotland squad.

Scotland will host the Springboks at Murrayfield on Saturday, November 13.
