VIDEO: Why Steyn was selected

WATCH as Francois Steyn shows why he still has the match fitness and skills to don a Springbok jersey.

It was certainly a surprise to see the name of Steyn in the Springboks 26-man alignment squad.

The longtime exiled 2007 World Cup winner, along with Cobus Reinach and Marcell Coetzee, has been recalled by Rassie Erasmus.

The Springbok coach has received loads of praise for his decision to bring in Reinach and Coetzee, however, Steyn’s call-up has not received the same warm reaction.

Many South African fans prefer seeing Steyn’s Montpellier teammate Jan Serfontein in the green and gold jersey.

However, other Springbok supporters – reminiscent of the good old days when a young 19-year-old stole their hearts during the 2007 World Cup – are more inclined to give him a chance.

Despite which side of the fence you are sitting, one has to acknowledge that he might not make that formidable runs and deadly kicks that propelled him to superstardom.

However, the centre, who can play at flyhalf and fullback does add heaps of experience which could be vital for the Springboks.
