Baby Bok prop wins appeal

Junior Springbok prop Luan de Bruin is available for selection for the Junior World Championship semifinal on Tuesday after SARU succeeded in its appeal against his suspension of four weeks.

The front row forward appeared before independent Judicial Officer, Jean-Noël Couraud (France), in Nantes on Tuesday, having been cited for a dangerous lifting tackle contrary to Law 10.4(j) of the Laws of the Game in his side's IRB World Junior Championship match against England, played at Stade Henri Desgrange in La Roche sur Yon last Sunday.

De Bruin denied committing the alleged act of foul play but the Judicial Officer upheld the citing complaint against De Bruin and imposed a sanction of four weeks. SARU then lodged an appeal and the subsequent hearing was held on Saturday.

“Following the appeal, Luan has been given permission to continue to play in the Junior World Championship and is eligible for selection for our next match,” said Yusuf Jackson, the SARU Manager for Amateur Teams.

“We have been in communication with the IRB and with the Appeal Officer, Tim Gresson, in particular, and due to the nature of the citing and subsequent appeal hearing, a written decision will be sent to us early next week.”
