Ebersohn wants winning send-off

The former Springbok Sevens star believes lifting the Challenge Cup would be the perfect silver-lining to three years with the club.

"This season will be a good one only if we win something," said Ebersohn.

"It will be even more special for me to win a trophy because I have been here for three years and I will be leaving at the end of a season and I would love to leave on a positive note after the years I have been here.

"I haven't won a lot of silver wear so it would be wonderful to win a trophy.

"But it would be especially good for the team.

"We are still building as a group, as a team.

"We haven't been together for a long time and there still so much room for improvement."

The 27-year-old knows he faces a daunting prospect in the sizeable shape off Harlequins' British & Irish Lions centre Jamie Roberts in the final showdown, though Ebersohn remains confident.

"There will be a couple of big guys playing in the midfield on Friday and the opposition is strong," he added.

"But I have faith in our players too.

"I know the strength of my team and of the guys I have played with in the centre, whether it is Anthony Tuitavake or François Steyn. I have a lot of confidence in our abilities in defence and in attack."

Montpellier are targeting their biggest achievement in Europe, having previously won the European Shield in 2004, the day before Quins sealed the second of their three Challenge Cup titles.

"On one hand, this will be a very special week for us. So far, we have been preparing very well, we have been working on little things and it is going great," he said.

"On the other hand, we also want to treat it like a normal week, although we are aware of the intensity, and the seriousness of a final's week.

"I think we will be ready to play a good game."
