Lions sweating over Coetzee

Andries Coetzee has been sent to a surgeon to reassess his knee which may require a clean up, potentially ruling him out for a week or two.

Coetzee suffered knee ligament damage in the Lions pre-season warm up match against the Eastern Province Kings and has not featured in the Lions campaign until last weekend's 25-12 loss to the Sharks.

Lions coach Johan Ackermann told this website that they are waiting for a call to be made on Coetzee's troublesome knee.

If it turns out that the surgeon wants to take action it is possible the fullback will be out for a further two weeks potentially.

"Coetzee's knee is still doubtful, they may need to do a clean up on it, that will force him out for a week or two," Ackermann said

"The doctor has sent him to the surgeon today to make an evaluation."

Deon van Rensburg also suffered a bad looking knee injury against the Sharks and the coach is unsure of his chances to make the Stormers game either.

"Deon [van Rensburg]  is O. K, he is still very sore, I am not sure if he is going to make it," the coach added.

Alwyn Hollenbach's return to the field was another one that was short lived as a bad cut above his mouth will see him miss the clash at Newlands.

"Alwyn [Hollenbach] will be out because he got a bad cut above his mouth and it needed to be fixed by a plastic surgeon, so he will be out," Ackermann concluded.
