Melck red card a 'mistake'

Saracens will urgently seek to overturn the red card shown to loose forward Justin Melck at Welford Road at the weekend.

The flank was sent off early in the second half of his team's 27-31 loss to Leicester Tigers in a Premiership clash – when the touch judge indicated Melck had gouged the eye of the Leicester hooker.

A club spokesman said: "The touch judge obviously thought he saw something, but he certainly didn't see what he thought.

"Justin made no contact with eye, a fact corroborated by the Leicester player afterwards.

"It was a simple human mistake, albeit a very disappointing mistake for a charming man playing perhaps his last competitive match for the club."
