Wing gets cut from Wales squad due to injury

The 27-year-old sustained the injury in Cardiff Blues’ final training session ahead of their Pro14 fixture against Cheetahs last Friday.

According to the Welsh Rugby Union's statement, the Cuthbert has undergone scans which determined that needs to undergo surgery and is expected to be out for four to six weeks.

The statement read: "Alex Cuthbert sustained a knee injury in Cardiff Blues’ final training session ahead of their PRO14 fixture against Cheetahs last weekend.

"Following subsequent scans and review with his Orthopaedic consultant, Alex will undergo surgery with a four to six weeks return to play time frame," it explained, adding: " With this in mind Alex will remain at the Blues for his medical management and will be released from the Wales national squad,"

Wales face Ireland in their next Six Nations clash at the Aviva Stadium on February 24.
