Rules for Draws in Challenge Cup play-offs
Eugene de Villiers, the operations manager of SARU’s referees’ department has sent out the regulations for the knock-out matches of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge which start with the four quarterfinals this weekend.
These regulations will apply to the semifinals and the final when the teams end on equal points at the final whistle.
Regulation 2.3 QUARTER- FINAL, SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL MATCHES, WHERE THE TEAMS DO NOT PLAY AGAINST ALL THE OPPONENTS DURING THE POOL MATCHES (excluding Under 19 rugby and Under 16 Girls)
If scores are level after the scheduled time, the winner will be determined as follows:
2.3.1 the team scoring the most points within extra time of twenty (20) minute (ten (10) minutes each way with a one (1) minute break);
and if still level
2.3.2 the team that scored the most tries in the match;
and if still level
2.3.3 the teams will continue to play and will change sides after 10 (ten) minutes with a minute break in-between. The first team to score points will be declared the winner (sudden death).
