CONFIRMED: Former Stormers flyhalf joins Cheetahs

SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT: The Cheetahs provided an official squad update on Monday with their new players.

The update confirmed that flyhalf Brandon Thomson has signed with the Bloemfontein franchise.

The 25-year-old has playing been playing for Scottish side Glasgow Warriors since 2017. He previously represented Western Province and the Stormers before he headed to Scotland.

Thomson will be an important addition to Hawies Fourie’s squad after they recently lost the services of Tian Schoeman to English club Bath.

New signings Alulutho Tshakweni, Jean Droste, Schalk Ferreira and Rynier Bernardo were also named in Monday’s squad.

Carl Wegner and Rhyno Smith have been named in the current squad, but they will be heading overseas in the coming months.

Both players have signed for Italian club Benetton.

The Cheetahs ended the 2020/2021 Currie Cup season in fifth position in the standings.
