The Bulls host the Lions on January 23 at Loftus Versfeld in the first Currie Cup semifinal in Pretoria since 2016.

The Bulls have been impressive under Jake White and one man who certainly added value to the rejuvenated Pretoria side was Stedman Gans.

The BlitzBok has been one of the standout performers in the Bulls set-up – making the transition from Sevens to XVs appear effortlessly.

The 23-year-old missed the Bulls’ last two fixtures against the Lions and Pumas, due to COVID-19 protocols.

“This was my first full XV-man season, so my body was starting to feel it,” Gans told reporters.

“I started to feel a little bit fatigued, so the break was good for me. I feel refreshed and ready to go again.”

Given his impressive form, the No.13 is likely to start against the Lions. The stakes are certainly high as a win will ensure the Bulls host the final at Loftus for the first time in more than a decade.

The Bulls, who already secured the Super Rugby Unlocked trophy,  head into the semifinal as firm favourites.

However,  Gans has warned his side not to be too complacent in their efforts to secure their second silverware of the season.

“We are expecting the Lions to bring their A-game during the semifinal,” Gans told reporters.

“I think there is no complacency in our camp. I know we have to be prepared and we will have to be fine form to give ourselves an opportunity against the Lions.”

He added: “They will play their best game of the season and we will have to do the same.”

When asked about his midfield battle with Wandile Similane,  Gans said: “I tend not to focus on my direct opposition, but I’m ready for the Lions as a team.”
