It has been confirmed that Marvin Orie has decided against re-signing with the Ellis Park-based franchise.

“Wishing Marvin Orie all the best for the future,” the Lions said in a social media post.

“Thanks for the memories.”

Kobus Porter, Orie’s agent, confirmed to @rugby365com that they have been in discussions with the Lions for some time, but have “failed to come to an agreement”.

“Marvin [Orie] wanted to re-sign [at Ellis Park], but we just could not reach an agreement,” the agent said.

“They [the Lions] could not meet our demands, so he decided to move on and look at other options.”

The agent declined to elaborate on the reasons behind the decision.

Porter said there are several options they are busy “discussing” – both in South Africa and abroad.

He added that a call is expected to be made in the next “three to four weeks”.

Orie, 27, played all three his Tests off the bench – the first against Wales in Washington DC back in June 2018 and the last in a pre-World Cup warm-up match against Argentina in Pretoria in August 2019.

Born and schooled in Cape Town, he played 40 games for the Bulls between 2012 and 2016.

Orie joined the Lions in 2017 and have featured in 90-odd games for the Ellis Park outfit.

He also made seven appearances for the Welsh region Ospreys in 2019.
