According to a statement, RA and the Member Union met in Sydney to discuss several key matters.

Commenting on the meeting, Marinos said: “It was a productive day with full engagement from all members.

“There was agreement amongst all member unions that the current operating model does need to change. RA will provide further information for the Unions to interrogate, including various funding options.

“This is the first of a number of meetings we will have throughout the year as we work in union for the benefit of our game.”

One of the talking points during the meeting might have been the 2027 World Cup.

Earlier this week, Australia confirmed they have launched a bid to host the 2027 Rugby World Cup, calling it a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” which would generate billions of dollars and return the sport to its former glories.

The 1991 and 1999 champions hosted the World Cup in 2003, reaching the final, but results have dwindled and rugby has come under financial strain in Australia under pressure from other sports.

Rugby Australia urged fans to get behind the bid, saying the World Cup would add Aus$2.5 billion (US$1.9 billion) to the economy, attracting 200,000 visitors and more than two million attendees.
