Newlands: The crown jewel of SA rugby

WATCH as the late Paul Dobson takes us back to the days of Newlands as a venue of glory and grandeur.

Newlands starts its final season as a Currie Cup venue when Western Province hosts the Blue Bulls in a Round One fixture on Saturday.

Unless WP hosts the Bulls in a semifinal or Final, this will be the last time the Grand Old Dame hosts a big north-south derby.

Other teams who will have the privilege of visiting Newlands for the last time – before the big move to the Cape Town Stadium next year – are the Pumas, Griquas and the Sharks (the latter in the final round of league action on January 9).

In the meantime we reminisce with the late Paul Dobson about the past and the venue of dreams and distinction.

Sit back and enjoy!
