Earlier this year WP head coach John Dobson revealed that the 26-year-old will be taking a “sabbatical” in Japan.

Schickerling was one of three players the Steelers unveiled on Wednesday.

“Thanks to Kobelco Steelers for giving me the opportunity to play in Japan,” said Schickerling.

“I am really looking forward to this new challenge.

“I can’t wait to meet my new teammates and experience the wonderful Japanese culture.

“I’m ready for a new chapter in my career.”
