FNB Classic Clash: Jeppe vs KES

Match preview

KES go across Johannesburg to face old rivals Jeppe in the first FNB Classic Clash of 2006. In general and especially recently KES have dominated the 1st XV matches.

In fact Jeppe have won just once in the last decade and took a bit of a hammering last year.

But it's all change at schools every year as one team leaves and another arrives. KES, for example, have just three players back from last year's team.

Jeppe believe that they have the backs to beat KES and that it is up to their forwards to produce enough ball for them. KES reckon they have an all-round side with their main strength in the loose forwards – Josh Carstens, Vaughn Meyer and Bwalya Bwalya.

A glance at the results below suggests that KES would be expected to win, regardless of whether or not it is a home match for Jeppe.

Both sides have played and lost. Jeppe have played once, losing 22-17 to Parktown. KES have played once, losing 17-6 to Pretoria Boys' High.

Coach Cedric Finlayson, back at KES after four years in Durban, expects it to be hard, especially at Jeppe. "It won't be easy but if we can improve on last week's performance we will be in with a good chance."
