Schoonspruit, Wesbank in FNB Classic Clash

Match Preview

Schoonspruit and Wesbank, both keen rugby schools in Malmesbury, meet in an FNB Classic Clash on Saturday afternoon.

Some 10 000 spectators are expected at Wesbank for the match.

Schoonspruit has the advantage of age. It is the school looked up to. It is also the school with the better record. This year alone it has played 17 matches and lost just the one – 7-5 to Weston, Enrico Januarie's old school, a result which coach Raynard de Jager still finds a bitter pill.

The derby between the two schools, this year an FNB Classic Clash for the first time, came into being in 1999, and Schoonspruit has dominated it.

Schoonspruit have two players who went to the 2005 Academy Week in Upington – eighthman Vincent Roberts and lock Ryno Cordon. Wesbank have no players of such achievement.

The odds again seem on a Schoonspruit victory.
