Zwelenkosi Ben ready for FNB Classic Clash

Player profile

We profile Zwelenkosi Ben, captain of the Zweliyandila High School first XV in their FNB Classic Clash with Ntsonkotha Senior Secondary School.

Born in East-London, Zwelenkosi Ben or ‘Nconco’ as his mates know him, has been playing rugby since 1996. Zwelenkosi spent his junior years at Sawele Junior School before moving on Zweliyandila High School.

Although rugby is one of Zwelenkosi’s biggest loves he still manages to play competitive soccer at the same time for the Eleven Experience team. His sublime footy skills will no doubt put him in good stead for those pinpoint box kicks and Carlos Spencer like grubbers and chip kicks.

An electric scrumhalf from the base of the scrum, Ntsonkotha will definitely have to watch this nippy player. Although Zweliyandila have  played only three games thus far this season, Zwelenkosi hopes that his side will have gathered enough experience and created combinations that will allow his team to perform to their potential.

Star players to watch out for in the Zweliyandila side are the flank Bongimpilo Matyaleni and left-wing Sbisiso Hoya.

Even though Zwelenkosi rates the Ntsonkotha side, he will not stand down from the challenge and seems to have a very uncompromising attitude towards their FNB Classic Clash this Saturday. Although his first year in the first team, the school rugby captain looks to extend his rugby career next year when he goes to study at Border Technikon.

Look out for Zwelenkosi in the 2005 USSASU week – the rugby tournament organsied by the South African Students Sports Union
