Lions building the next generation

NEWS: The Lions are ensuring that they are well covered for the future after they confirmed the names of 13 junior players that have extended their contracts with the union.

Junior Springbok Wandisile Simelane is the biggest name that stands out in the list.

It was reported last month that Simelane was one of a number of players on John Mitchell’s wishlist at the Bulls.

Earlier this week the Lions confirmed the names of 26 senior players that are contracted to the union. They included a number of Springboks such as Warren Whiteley, Malcolm Marx, Ross Cronje, Aphiwe Dyantyi, and Marvin Orie.

The Lions begin their 2018 Currie Cup campaign against Griquas in Johannesburg on Friday, August 24.

The Lions revealed that Ivan van Rooyen has been appointed Currie Cup coach.

Lions junior player signings: Gianni Lombard, Wandisile Simelane, Tyrone Green, PJ Botha, PJ Steenkamp, Jack Hart, Manny Rass, Cohen Kiewit, Nathan Macbeth, Ruan Vermaak, Tiaan van der Merwe, Diaan Schoonees, Louritz van der Schyff.
