Just 153 days after Saracens lifted their second consecutive Champions Cup trophy in May, Europe's elite are ready to begin their pursuit of the continent's top prize for 2017/18.

And Rennie's campaign starts at Sandy Park Way, in Exeter, on Saturday – when they take on Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs.

Rennie, who only arrived at Glasgow Warriors in August after the conclusion of the Super Rugby season, has made an unbeaten start to his Pro14 career – six from six.

However, the challenge become much tougher – with the Warriors set to face the English champions, who are second on the Premiership standings.

Apart from Exeter, Glasgow are drawn in the same Champions Cup group as Montpellier (the top 14 leaders, who just happen to have Aaron Cruden at flyhalf) and Leinster (winner of the European competitions three times).

"I think it's a fair thing to say, and if you've aspirations of winning things, you're going to have to play and beat the good sides," Rennie told The Sunday Times.

"I'm sure the guys will take confidence from getting through to the final eight last year.

"But we don't want to be satisfied with that, we've got to set higher goals.

"We realise the path is difficult, but often success is judged by how much silverware you have in the cupboard.

"What we know is that we have a good side, we've got good depth so we've got to be aspirational around trying to win the thing. If we don't, then it won't have been successful," he said.
