The World Cup-winning coach White underwent emergency abdominal surgery on Sunday, January 8.

The 59-year-old had been unwell during the Bulls’ tour to Wales earlier this month and was unable to attend a United Rugby Championship victory over the Dragons.

When the Bulls returned to South Africa on January 8, White complained of severe stomach cramps and underwent a two-hour surgery the same day in a Pretoria hospital.

The coach has since missed the Bulls’ Champions Cup win over Exeter Chiefs at the weekend.

On Monday Bulls President Willem Strauss delivered some good news, revealing to @rugby365com, that White is home and recovering well.

“Our coach was discharged from hospital,” Strauss said, adding: “And are slowly, but surely getting better.”

Bulls mentor will be taking a break from his team until February 8.

The Bulls stated that they cannot place a timestamp on the length of this period, but will be guided by the expertise and advice of the medical staff.
