The scrumhalf capped off a fine night for the Scottish side, as they scored six tries in total to consolidate their grip on fourth in Conference B.

Edinburgh burst out of the blocks, scoring two tries in the first six minutes through Fraser McKenzie and Viliame Mata.

The Kings hit back before the break but Edinburgh flexed their muscle to run in three more tries to cap off a convincing bonus-point win.

With six Scotland internationals back in the ranks, Edinburgh were given a major boost ahead of the match and it took them less than three minutes to make it count.

A neat, flowing move saw the visitors cut through the Kings and it was left to captain Fraser McKenzie to stretch across for the first of the match.

The Kings were shell-shocked and it got worse minutes later as Viliame Mata powered over to make the score 12-0 within six minutes.

Schalk Ferreira’s yellow card made things worse for the Kings but they battled hard and scored points of their own with Kurt Coleman landing a penalty.

Gilchrist barrelled over for Edinburgh’s third mid-way through the first half but by then the Kings had found a route into the game.

Harlon Klaasen, a threat all night with ball in hand, sprinted clear of Edinburgh’s defence to score a superb solo try while Coleman landed two more penalties to reduce the gap to six points.

Edinburgh regrouped after the break with full-back Blair Kinghorn particularly influential, both under the high ball and surging forwards.

And the Scottish side secured the bonus point mid-way through the second half as Fife scrambled across after Nathan Fowles found him down the blind-side of a five-metre scrum.

Replacement Hidalgo-Clyne then finished it shortly after, getting the ball down after a pick and go before adding his second from close range by running a clever line.

And, as the Kings tired, he finished an unlikely hat-trick by bursting through a gap under the posts.

The Kings still had time for a consolation try through Dries van Schalkwyk.
