SPOTLIGHT: Sharks flyhalf Curwin Bosch is ready to do all he can to convince the Springbok coaches to pick him for the Tests against the British and Irish Lions.

With that three-Test series approaching fast, there is intense competition for places in Jacques Nienaber’s squad.

There has been a spotlight on the flyhalf position over the last few weeks with Handre Pollard returning from injury and Elton Jantjies heading to France.

There is also Morne Steyn who has played his way back in the Bok frame with a number of influential performances for the Bulls.

Bosch is set to come up against Steyn this coming weekend when the Sharks head to Pretoria and that could make for an intriguing battle.

“It’s always nice to play against an experienced guy like Morne Steyn, but nothing changes from my point of view,” said Bosch.

“I will approach the game exactly the same – do my basics well, give direction to the team and be the best player I can be on the field.”

When asked if he felt any pressure because of the competition for places, Bosch responded: “Definitely not. To me, it is all about perfecting my game.

“The rest will take care of itself. The [Springbok] coaches know what they are looking for. They told me what they need from me and from all the other players to make that squad.

“It’s all about taking it from week to week and trying to put a performance together every week that I can be proud of and the Sharks can be proud of.”

Bosch knows that it will be a big achievement in his career if he is selected to play in those Tests against the B&I Lions

“The British and Irish Lions come here every 12 years, so it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Bosch added.

“You are lucky to get it in your time, so I am really looking forward to that.

“I do have my eyes on that squad and hopefully I can put performances together that can convince the Springbok coaches that I am good enough to play.”
