Cronje sits out Bok training with injury

The Boks are currently in Port Elizabeth where the 34-man squad kicked off its preparations for the start of the 2017 Rugby Championship.

"We will monitor his [Cronje's] improvement over the next few days before he is allowed contact,” explained Konrad von Hagen, the Boks' team doctor.

Flank Siyamthanda Kolisi is recovering from an ankle sprain sustained in Super Rugby action for the Stormers. He is completing his final phase of rehabilitation and should return to normal training next week.

Flyhalf Handré Pollard, meanwhile, continued his on-field rehabilitation and his reintroduction to training will be done systematically.

Fullback Warrick Gelant, who is one of three uncapped young player included in the 34-man squad, sat out training because of flu.

"Overall, the squad is in good spirit and they completed today's training session at high-intensity,” explained Von Hagen.

"Our aim for this week is to get them through as much preparation as we can, while obviously keeping in mind the workload of the players who have just completed a tough Super Rugby campaign."

The wife of Courtnall Skosan gave birth to the couple's first child, Courtnall Skosan Junior, on Tuesday in Johannesburg and the wing will join the Bok squad later in the week, while UK-based scrumhalf Francois Hougaard is set to link up with the Bok group this coming Sunday.

South Africa face Argentina in their opening Rugby Championship match in Port Elizabeth next weekend.
