SEVENS ASSAULT UPDATE: A Samoan rugby union player has denied assaulting three members of the Wales team at the Rugby World Cup Sevens tournament in San Francisco.

According to the BBC online newspaper, Gordon Langkilde pleaded not guilty to three charges of battery and one of assault after the alleged altercation.

Langkilde was arrested by the San Francisco Police Department after attacking two Welsh opponents in the tunnel at AT&T Park after Samoa’s 19-24 defeat to Wales during the World Cup in July.

Wales player Tom Williams suffered tournament-ending injuries in the attack, which Welsh players later described as unprovoked.

While another 26-year-old Welsh player sustained facial injuries along with a 24-year-old teammate.

The BBC reported that Langkilde must remain in the US until his trial on August 15.
