Erasmus responds to Bulls coaching rumour

NEWS: Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus dismissed rumours that he has offered to be the Bulls’ head coach in next year’s Super Rugby tournament.

On Saturday reports emerged that Erasmus offered to take over from John Mitchell ahead of next season’s Super Rugby tournament.

Mitchell is expected to leave the Bulls to take up a role with England’s national team.

Rather than being the Bulls coach, Erasmus explained that it might be a good idea to assist the Bulls where they need help as he has done with other teams during this season.

“No, I am not planning to coach the Bulls. It is hard to explain when people start a rumour,” Erasmus told reporters ahead of the team’s departure to Australia.

“It looks funny because it’s not an official thing. For example, Jacques Nienaber and Pieter de Villiers toured with the Stormers and the Lions and I was with the Sharks.

“Overall, we are trying to help everywhere we can and if the Bulls want some help for a few months then it is part of my job as Director of Rugby to help them. But I won’t be coaching them permanently.”
