There is the moth-eaten aphorism that it all ‘starts up front’ and nowhere does it get more confrontational than the scrums.

Nyakane says he ‘can’t wait’ for the set-piece battle against the much-vaunted Stormers pack.

Even in the absence of injured Boks Eben Etzebeth and Steven Kitshoff, the Stormers will fancy their chances at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but I’m excited,” Nyakane told a media scrum in the build-up to the Round One encounter in Pretoria.

“We had a taste of it two weeks ago,” he said of the 28-33 loss to the Stormers at the Cape Town Stadium in a pre-season outing on February 3.

“It went alright, but they will have their full strength side [at Loftus].”

Nyakane said the fact that the Stormers were not at full-strength in the pre-season outing makes it tough to judge what will happen at Loftus.

“We can’t wait to see what they bring to the table and what we bring to see who wins that battle,” the Bok prop said.

“All I know is, whatever they bring, we will have to match it and do better.

“The scrum is a battle you have to win on the day. It is something they are going to come for, and something the Bulls will go for and it is something we can’t wait to see on the day.”
