Among a number of important changes, Paul Docherty was appointed Melbourne Rebels Chairman and Tim North QC stepped down from his role as the club’s interim Chairman.

The AGM also saw North elected President of Rugby Victoria for a fifth consecutive two-year term and North will also fill the newly created position of Melbourne Rebels President, a role reserved for the RV Chairman now enshrined in the constitution.

All of the resolutions and changes to the constitution were supported unanimously by the annual general meeting.

Docherty has spent a life time in Rugby Union, from his early days as an ACT Schoolboys and Canberra Kookaburras’ representative, later captaining Melbourne University from 1995-1997. Docherty remains involved in Victorian rugby today through his three young sons, who all play juniors for the Melbourne Unicorns.

On being appointed, Docherty said: "After being involved in the Victorian rugby community as a player, coach, parent and partner for more than a decade, it’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed Chairman of the Melbourne Rebels," Docherty said.

“It’s an exciting time for the Rebels as we kick-off a new era for the organisation this week and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to establishing a foundation of Super Rugby success here in Victoria.”
