AUDIO: Experienced Willie's message to younger teammates
LISTEN as double world champion Willie le Roux shares his advice to his younger teammates ahead of their United Rugby Championship Final against Leinster.
Le Roux has been there and done that. Two World Cups, a British and Irish Lions series and now his first URC Final.
Experience is invaluable in big matches and many top coaches have stressed it over the years.
The veteran Springbok fullback said that calmness and taking your opportunities are some of his key messages to the younger players in the Bulls side.
The article continues below…
“I just try and advise the younger guys telling them It’s like playing the first game of the season.
“You don’t want to put this on a pedestal and make it that much bigger then you end up creeping up into your shell and you don’t want to try things such as running from your half.
“That’s not what’s gotten us here in the first place. We got here by taking chances and taking opportunities when we see them.
“That’s what you must do in these big games as well. Whether you make a mistake or not it’s about putting yourself out there and getting into battles.
“You might lose a few battles but you might also win them. That’s just the little things I try and tell the guys.
“Try and get your hands on the ball and do as much as you can. Try getting yourself in as many battles and have no doubts afterwards.”
