Player ratings: Shut out

Argentina fought hard in the second half, but it was not enough to avoid a 31-12 defeat to England at Twickenham.

The Pumas were outclassed in the first half as England kept them pinned on the back foot to build up a healthy lead, and although they were more convincing after half-time they never got within striking distance.

Outscored by four tries to nil at the end, the Pumas battled to penetrate the England defence, with all of their points coming from the kicking tee.

Despite getting dominance at scrum-time they were unable to make the most of that momentum, with some crucial defensive lapses costing them dearly.

We rate the Argentina players:

15 Lucas González Amorosino

Used his speed and counter-attacked well, with a couple of good kicks as well, but his defence was shown up at times.

6/10

14 Horacio Agulla

Looked to get involved and ran hard but did not get many opportunities in space. Worked well on defence and came off his wing looking for work.

6/10

13 Marcelo Bosch

A disappointing game for the midfielder who made a few costly defensive errors. His long-range goal-kicking was erratic and he also missed touch with a penalty kick.

4/10

12 Santiago Fernández

Kept busy on defence but did not get many opportunities with the ball in hand. Some good tactical kicking but otherwise quiet.

6/10

11 Juan Imhoff

used his speed well to charge down a kick from Lee Dickson and held up Chris Ashton on the tryline but was also bumped off by Billy Twelvetrees before hobbling off after half an hour.

6/10

10 Nicolás Sanchez

Tackled hard but took the ball too deep on attack and was put under pressure by England defence. Ghosted through a gap in the 22 but was called back for obstruction.

5/10

9 Tomas Cubelli

Provided good service and kicked well as he tried to get his pack moving forward, but also made a few handling errors.

6/10

8 Juan Manuel Leguizamón

A tough game for the skipper who got blown up at breakdown too often in an effort to turn the tide. He carried the ball up strongly but watched closely by the England defence.

5/10

7 Pablo Matera

Tackled his heart out in a hard-wroking effort, but lacked accuracy with the ball in hand, losing it in contact too often.

6/10

6 Julio Farias Cabello

Battled to impose himself on the game with limited opportunities. Got through plenty of work on defence, but also got stopped short of the gainline too often.

6/10

5 Mariano Galarza

Carried the ball well and took the England defence on, but slipped off a few tackles.

6/10

4 Patricio Albacete

A solid presence in the line-outs, putting pressure on the England throw and got around the park well as well.

7/10

3 Maximiliano Bustos

Gave Joe Marler a tough time in the scrums and also got stuck into the loose exchanges, making plenty of tackles.

6/10

2 Eusebio Guiñazú

His line-out throwing was erratic, but his physicality came in handy on defence as he made a few big hits.

5/10

1 Marcos Ayerza

A strong scrummaging performance from the big loosehead who also carried the ball up well when given the chance.

6/10
